Oktoberfest season is rolling through our area, with local breweries, farms, and restaurants putting their own spin on the tradition. From polka and Bavarian music to stein-holding contests, German food, and craft beer, here's where to raise a glass close to home.

2nd Annual Brocktoberfest at Brock's Riverside Grill
September 12 | 503 Sophia St, Downtown Fredericksburg

Brock's is taking over its entire property this year for a full day of Oktoberfest on the Rappahannock. Live music runs all day with Mark Vollten & The Scenic Roots from 2 to 5 PM, The Chris Ryan Band from 6 to 10, and DJ Don Juan spinning the late-night after party upstairs from 10 PM to 1:30 AM. The parking lot becomes a beer garden with Sam Adams, Devil's Backbone, Two Silos, Center of the Universe, Port City, and Silver Branch. The Oktoberfest menu includes pretzel sticks with beer cheese, potato pancakes, a meat and cheese board, beer brats, jägerschnitzel, and crispy pork shank. Seven full-service bars total.

Barktoberfest at Strangeways Brewing
September 26, 12 to 5 PM | 350 Lansdowne Rd

An Oktoberfest celebration made for beer lovers and their four-legged friends. Free entry, with beer, food, local vendors, and plenty of adorable dogs roaming the brewery. Bring the whole pack, raise a stein, and let your pup enjoy their own day out.

Fredtoberfest at 6 Bears & A Goat Brewing Co.
September 12, 12 to 10 PM | 1140 International Pkwy

The season kicks off with the fifth annual Fredtoberfest. Free and family-friendly, featuring Virginia breweries, cideries and meaderies, German fare, live music all day, traditional German dancers, Oktoberfest games and contests, and local artisan vendors.

Adventure Brewing Company, 11th Annual Oktoberfest
September 19, 12 to 10 PM | 33 Perchwood Dr. #101

Year eleven brings a stein-holding contest, firkin tapping, polka dancing, and the inevitable Chicken Dance, plus live music from Cold North in the evening. Chapos Tacos and Rosies will serve special event food.

Laudenbach Brewing Company, 2nd Annual Oktoberfest
September 26, 12 to 10 PM | 45 Centreport Pkwy #101

Bavarian folk music from M&J Volksmusik from 1 to 4 PM, then High and Dry from 6 to 9. Stein-holding contests at 4 PM, hourly raffles from 1 to 6 with no purchase necessary, and Oktoberfest Märzen on tap with commemorative one-liter steins available.

Full Distance Brewing, Annual Oktoberfest
September 26, 12 to 9 PM | 650 Corporate Dr. #101

A laid-back Saturday with German fare from Chapo's Tacos and KJ Chatterbox, live music from Dave Nemetz and the Anthony James Band, plus raffles and prizes throughout.

Barley Naked Brewing Company, Oktoberfest & 8th Anniversary
October 10, 12 to 9 PM | 15 Tech Parkway

Closing out the season with a celebration doubling as their eighth anniversary. Start with a morning Beer Mile (registration required), then enjoy live polka, local vendors, face painting and pumpkin painting for kids, and non-alcoholic options from Lucky Duck Lemonade & Dirty Sodas. Free and family-friendly.

St. Paul's Oktoberfest
September 26, 12 to 8 PM | St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 5486 St. Pauls Road

Free admission with no entry tickets needed. German platters, kinderdogs, pretzels, and desserts, with the kitchen open 12 to 7 PM while supplies last. German-style beer and wine from local breweries and wineries, plus soft drinks and water. Beverage tickets are sold at the entrance. All are welcome.

Oktoberfest Weekend at Creekside Farm Brewery
October 3 and 4 | 15492 Creekside Ln

Two full days of Bavarian fun at this King George farm brewery. Wiener dog races, a pretzel toss, stein holding and keg rolling competitions, German-inspired food, Oktoberfest brews, an outdoor biergarten, and merch and giveaways. Live music both days with the Chris Ryan Band on Saturday and the Lost Lederhosen German Party Band on Sunday.

1781 Brewing Co. & Wilderness Run Vineyards has hosted Oktoberfest celebrations in past years at their farmhouse brewery and vineyard on Plank Road. Watch their calendar for this year's announcement.

A few dates are doubling up, so you can hit more than one.

Saturday, September 12 is the biggest day of the season. Fredtoberfest at 6 Bears & A Goat runs 12 to 10, and Brocktoberfest at Brock's goes all day into the early morning. Start at one, end at the other.

Saturday, September 26 is the busiest day on the calendar with four options: Barktoberfest at Strangeways, Laudenbach and Full Distance in Stafford County, and St. Paul's in King George. Pick your adventure or make a day of it.

October brings the closers. Creekside's two-day weekend on October 3 and 4 (don't miss the wiener dog races), then Barley Naked wraps the season on October 10.

A few things worth knowing before you go: most of these are free and family-friendly, so you don't need to be a serious beer drinker to enjoy them. Several offer non-alcoholic options. If you're planning to compete in a stein-holding contest, arrive early to sign up. And if you have a dirndl or lederhosen buried in a closet somewhere, this is the season to wear them.
