Every fall, when the air turns crisp and the leaves start to tumble, Stafford County shows the world what community spirit is all about. For over a decade, Stafford County Public Schools has joined forces with Operation Warm and our local fire departments to ensure every child has a warm coat to face the winter chill.

This partnership is one of the most heartfelt efforts around. This year alone, school counselors have requested 1623 brand-new coats for students. Each coat costs just $25, and every dollar comes from the generous hearts of our community, donated through Stafford County Fire and Rescue and its volunteer stations.

Over the years, that kindness has made a huge impact with nearly 25000 coats distributed and over $400000 raised for Stafford's kids. That's a whole lot of warmth and love!

Superintendent Dr. Daniel W. Smith says this effort shows every child they're valued and supported, setting them up to thrive. Fire Chief Joseph A. Cardello echoes that, noting the goal is to keep kids safe, warm, and ready to learn.

A coat might seem small, but for many families, it's a big relief and one less worry. For a child, it's the confidence to walk into school, attend regularly, and enjoy outdoor playtime without feeling the cold.

You can pitch in with a donation to Operation Warm, either online or by check. All contributions are tax-deductible. Every gift, no matter the size, helps a student step into winter feeling cozy, cared for, and wrapped in the embrace of a community that's got their back.
