Fredericksburg Is Getting Its Own Soccer Team
A new pre-professional soccer club is coming to town. Founded in 2026, Fred City Soccer Club builds on the legacy of Commonwealth Cardinals FC, one of the region's first USL League Two clubs, and is working toward an inaugural 2027 season with both a men's and a women's team.
Men's team competes in USL League Two, the top pre-professional league in North America
Women's team competes in USL W League, the nation's premier pre-professional women's league
Founded by Victor Fuster, Jason Graham, and Gilberto Baez, whose combined backgrounds span soccer leadership, business, and community service
Player and coaching announcements are still to come, with more details expected closer to the 2027 season
The club is looking for volunteers and interns to help with match day operations and community engagement as it builds toward launch

Last PIES of Summer Festival Brings Free Family Fun to Fredericksburg
The Knowledge Exchange is hosting its Last PIES of Summer Festival on Saturday, August 29, from 10 am to 5 pm at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fredericksburg. The free, family-friendly indoor festival is packed with activities for all ages, from Dungeons & Dragons to sound meditation to hands-on community resources.
Dungeons & Dragons blocks for new and experienced players
Free face painting and a Paint a Pie in a Windowsill art activity from 2 to 3 pm
Sound meditation and a nutrition and movement seminar
Practical sessions on youth IDs, life insurance, advance directives, and youth budgeting
Vendors, community resources, games, pies, and raffles throughout the day
Registering ahead of time earns guests a free raffle ticket at check-in, with more raffle tickets available for attending sessions and activities throughout the festival.

Savannah Bananas Bring Their First-Ever Banana Bowl to Washington Nationals Park
The Savannah Bananas are hosting their inaugural Banana Bowl championship at Nationals Park on October 10, capping off the Banana Ball Championship League season with all six teams competing for the title.
