Worth the Drive: Step Inside the Smithsonian Castle Before It Closes Again

Looking for a memorable day trip? Just up the road in DC, the Smithsonian Castle has reopened for a rare summer window to celebrate America's 250th birthday. Completed in 1855, the Castle is usually off limits, so this is a special chance to explore the Smithsonian's oldest building and symbolic heart. Visitors can wander the restored Great Hall, where interpretive displays trace the Castle's history, transformation, and future, and take in the American Aspirations exhibition.
The exhibit reflects on the nation's ideals through treasured artifacts, including Harriet Tubman's hymnal. The Castle is open through Labor Day, with a visitor center, café, and shop, and then it closes again to finish its renovation.
Make a day of it in the nation's capital and see this storied landmark before the doors close. Plan your visit
