16 Holiday Markets to Shop Local This Season
Picture it: hot cider in one hand, a bag of handmade ornaments in the other, and a maker telling you exactly how she poured the candle you just bought for your sister. That’s a holiday market, and it’s my favorite way to check names off the list. Every dollar lands in a neighbor’s pocket.
So we built you a game plan. Our new guide rounds up 15 holiday markets across Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline and King George. Here’s how the season shakes out, weekend by weekend:
Nov. 14 and 15, kickoff weekend: Holiday Open House fills downtown Fredericksburg with shop specials and giveaways, the Pottery Throwdown takes over Hurkamp Park, and the Tree Lighting lights up Riverfront Park Saturday evening. Out in Spotsylvania, Ole Roosting Box hosts a cozy holiday market too.
Nov. 21, the stacked Saturday: Four events in one day, including Stafford’s brand new Holiday Market at the Tree Lighting and a 40-foot tree lighting in Spotsylvania Courthouse Village. Pace yourself.
Nov. 28, Small Business Saturday: The Mistletoe Market fills Hurkamp Park from 9 to 1, then head to Eden Try Winery for their Fall Harvest Festival with local vendors, line dancing and pie paired with wine.
Dec. 4 to 6, the marathon: More than 350 vendors at the Fredericksburg Holiday Craft Show. Wear comfy shoes.
Dec. 12, Super Saturday: FAMFaire turns historic Market Square into a German-style holiday market, with Santa inside the museum. The same day brings the Kris Kringle Market at Backporch Vineyard, the Candy Cane Lane Christmas Market in Bowling Green and the Winter Kids’ Market in Hurkamp Park.
Dec. 19, last call: Finish your list at the North Pole Holiday Market at Strangeways.
My favorite detail? The kids markets, where young makers sell their own creations. Bring small bills. You’ll want them.

Help a Student Take Off at the Genesis of Flight Gala ✈️
Genesis of Flight is an immersive experience built around Wilbur and Orville Wright and the birth of powered flight, and it opens in early 2027. Students will follow the pioneers from kites and gliders to powered flight, see remarkable aircraft and artifacts, and discover the math, physics, and engineering behind it all, with the hope that they leave asking what they could discover, build, or become. You can get a first look at the Genesis of Flight Gala on Saturday, November 14, and participation is through student sponsorship: $100 opens the door for one student, and sponsorships start at five students for $500. Two Milestones, Two Cakes, One Historic Day 🎂
On Tuesday, November 10, the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle turns 20, and the Marine Corps itself turns 251. The museum is marking both with its annual cake cutting ceremonies at 10 AM and 2 PM, honoring two decades of preserving the stories and legacy of America’s Marines. It’s free and open to the public, so pick the time that works for your family and come celebrate. Semper Fi! Learn more: usmcmuseum.com

Three Mini Pies, Three Wines, One Very Good Afternoon 🥧🍷
Picture a tiny slice of Thanksgiving pie, a glass of Virginia wine, and nowhere else to be. That’s the Pie & Wine Flight in the Bistro at Potomac Point Winery, served November 18 to 22. Three mini pies come paired with Potomac Point wines, and the team’s favorite match is Pumpkin Cheesecake with Late Harvest Petit Manseng. Before you head out, stock up on holiday wines, snag the Holiday Feast Trio at 15% off, and add a custom Thanksgiving label to a bottle for a host gift people actually remember. One note: the winery is closed November 23 to 26 so the team can celebrate with family, and it reopens Black Friday, November 27, for post-holiday sipping and shopping.
